Often people ask me why I am involved in different kinds of volunteer initiatives, and how I manage to find the time alongside my daily professional responsibilities. The answer is simple, yet deeply personal. I may not be one of the brightest stars, but I am the catalyst that will create the future stars of Africa. This belief is not a slogan; it is the thread that connects everything I do. Over the years, my journey has taken me across roles, organizations, and countries. From working in Finland’s public sector on digital infrastructure, cloud governance, and secure systems, to contributing to Ethiopia’s evolving digital transformation ecosystem, one thing has remained constant: the mission is not to shine alone, but to build systems where others can shine.

Living and working in a digitally advanced society like Finland has given me a clear view of what is possible when systems, governance, and people are aligned with purpose. At the same time, Ethiopia stands at a defining moment in its history. The country is not merely adopting technology; it is actively shaping its digital future. Like blooming flowers, initiatives are emerging across sectors, from fintech to public services, from education to entrepreneurship. In this moment of transformation, I see my role clearly: I may not be the brightest star, but I am the spark that will ignite the future stars of Africa. This realization transforms ambition into responsibility, where the focus shifts toward building bridges between continents, between knowledge systems, and between generations.
Every meaningful ecosystem begins with people. Through DEMERA, the focus is on building digital capacity from the ground up by working closely with universities and partners. This includes enabling access to globally recognized certifications and supporting instructors in delivering high-quality training. It is not just about education; it is about creating access and unlocking potential. When a student earns a certification, they gain more than a credential; they gain entry into the global digital economy, confidence in their capabilities, and a pathway toward meaningful contribution. However, capacity alone cannot sustain transformation without connection.
Skills must be connected to opportunity to create real impact. This is where Ethio-Nordic Tech Professionals Association (ENTPA) plays a vital role. By linking Ethiopian professionals in the Nordic region with initiatives back home, it creates a bridge where knowledge, experience, and networks can flow seamlessly. This connection transforms isolated talent into a collaborative force, enabling ideas to travel, expertise to return, and opportunities to expand beyond borders. Yet, even a well-connected ecosystem cannot grow sustainably without trust.
Digital transformation without security is fragile and short-lived. Through the Cloud Security Alliance Ethiopia Chapter, efforts are focused on embedding global security practices into Ethiopia’s digital journey. By building awareness, developing local expertise, and aligning with international standards, we ensure that growth is not only rapid but also secure and sustainable. Trust becomes the foundation upon which digital ecosystems can scale, and without it, progress remains vulnerable. However, trust alone is not sufficient without strong governance to sustain it.
Technology, talent, and security must ultimately be anchored in accountability. Through the Ethiopian Information Systems Audit Association (EISAA), the focus extends to strengthening governance, audit practices, and institutional integrity. Digital systems must be transparent, compliant, and reliable to truly serve society and enable long-term growth. This completes the ecosystem, where skills, networks, security, and governance are interconnected pillars, each reinforcing the other. None can stand alone, and together they create a sustainable foundation for innovation and transformation.
Across all these efforts, one idea consistently connects everything: I may not be the brightest star, but I will enable and empower the future stars of Africa. This is not about one organization or a single initiative; it is about building a sustainable ecosystem where innovation can continuously grow and evolve. From grassroots training to international collaboration, from security frameworks to governance structures, the goal remains the same: to create an environment where others can rise, lead, and innovate with confidence and purpose.
True impact is not defined by visibility, but by multiplication. I may not be one of the bright stars, but I am the catalyst to create the future bright stars of Africa. A catalyst does not replace the reaction; it enables and accelerates it. In the same way, my role is not to stand at the center, but to ensure that the system works, evolves, and sustains itself beyond any individual contribution.
The encouraging truth is that the work has already begun. Across universities, communities, and professional networks, the future stars of Africa are already being shaped. They are learning, building, and stepping into a digital world that is increasingly connected and full of opportunity. Yet, this is not a one-time effort. The real challenge is not only to create these future stars, but to sustain their growth, support their evolution, and ensure that the ecosystem continues to thrive over time. This is not an individual mission; it is a collective responsibility shared by governments, institutions, professionals, diaspora communities, and young innovators alike.
In the end, Africa’s future will not be defined by a single bright star, but by a constellation of empowered individuals working together to shape a better, more inclusive, and digitally enabled future.
