On September 20, 2025, at the iconic Oodi Library in Helsinki, a new chapter was written in the story of Ethiopian professionals in the Nordics. The ETHIO-NORDIC TECH PROFESSIONALS ASSOCIATION (ENTPA) was officially established through the successful convening of its founding General Assembly. This milestone marks not only the birth of an association but also the beginning of a collective movement to harness knowledge, skills, and networks for the advancement of Ethiopia’s digital transformation.

The gathering brought together professionals from across Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland and beyond—ranging from recent graduates to experts with decades of ICT experience. What united us all was a common vision: to create a strong platform where Ethiopian and Ethiopian-origin ICT professionals can connect, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to both our host countries and our beloved Ethiopia.

Inspiring Words and Strong Support

The assembly was honored by the presence of H.E. Ambassador Mehretab Mulugeta, who delivered an inspiring keynote. He underlined the timeliness and importance of ENTPA’s establishment, especially as Ethiopia advances its digital transformation agenda. He also drew attention to the symbolic timing—just days after the inauguration of the Grand Renaissance Dam, a national symbol of progress and resilience.

We were also encouraged by the remarks of Mr. Fikadu Bekele, Diaspora Affairs Coordinator at the Ethiopian Embassy in Stockholm, who reaffirmed his commitment to support and promote ENTPA. Their presence and encouragement made the day not only memorable but also a powerful affirmation that our vision is both visible and doable.

Leadership and Responsibility

I am deeply humbled and grateful for the trust placed in me to serve as the first President of ENTPA. As the initiator of this idea, I feel both honored and fully aware of the responsibility this role carries. This is not a title to celebrate lightly—it is a call to work hard, with dedication, persistence, and vision, to ensure that our association fulfills its objectives.

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the fellow members who were elected to leadership positions. Each of us carries a responsibility to act actively, responsibly, and with a sense of service. Together, we will ensure that ENTPA grows into a vibrant and impactful community.

Gratitude and the Road Ahead

This achievement would not have been possible without the collective effort of the general assembly members who participated both physically and virtually, demonstrating commitment and unity. My sincere appreciation also goes to Ambassador Mehretab, Natalia Sabure, Honorary Consul of Ethiopia to Finland, Mr. Fikadu Bekele, Diaspora Affairs Coordinator and every individual who played a role in making this establishment a reality.

The road ahead is long, and the work required is immense. Yet, with the collective energy, skills, and spirit of collaboration that we witnessed in Helsinki, I am confident that ENTPA will serve as a meaningful bridge—connecting Ethiopian professionals in the Nordics with Ethiopia’s fast-evolving digital future.

This is only the beginning, but it is a strong and promising one.
