Yesterday marked a significant milestone for our entire family, the high school graduation of my son, Leo. As I stood there watching him cross that stage, my heart swelled with pride, not only for his achievement but for the incredible journey that brought us to this moment.
I vividly remember ten years ago, the day we first walked into the Helsinki Finnish Co-educational School (SYK). Founded in 1886, SYK is a communal, goal-oriented, and inspiring school with a strong tradition of academic excellence. Leo was just a 9-year-old boy then, ready to begin third grade in a completely new environment. The challenges ahead were daunting: a daily 15-kilometer commute using multiple public transport routes, learning a new language with a completely unfamiliar alphabet (Russian) and forging new friendships in a new world.
But Leo embraced every challenge with quiet strength and relentless dedication. Yesterday’s graduation wasn’t just a celebration of academic success, it was a testament to resilience, to courage, and to growth. He didn’t just meet the challenges, he overcame them and delivered results that inspire pride, admiration, and joy.
As a father, I am deeply moved to see the fruits of our collective efforts as a family. This moment is not only Leo’s achievement but also a shared success, a moment where we, as parents, can say with confidence, “We did it,” and where our sons can stand tall and say, “We all did it—together.”
Joel, too, walked this path before his twin brother. Although he graduated earlier, his journey was just as impressive and filled with the same spirit of hard work, resilience, and commitment to growth. This occasion gives me the chance to celebrate both of my sons equally. I am immensely proud of who they are and what they have accomplished.

While graduation marks the end of one chapter, it is the beginning of a new one. From here onward, the journey becomes even more personal. It is a time when they will shape their future not merely with the help of teachers or parents, but through their own choices, values, and dreams. I have complete confidence in both Leo and Joel. They are prepared for what lies ahead, and I believe deeply in their ability to thrive.
A Message to My Sons
My dear boys,
Being your father has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I have always been—and will always be—immensely proud of you. You have been extraordinary sons, and I want to congratulate you both on this special occasion. Although Joel’s graduation came earlier, with this message I wish to celebrate you both equally.
You now stand at the threshold of a new phase in your lives. I wish you success in everything you choose to pursue. Life is full of opportunities, surprises, and meaningful encounters. Through them, you will discover what truly matters to you.
Have the courage to take on challenges, but do so thoughtfully, avoiding unnecessary risks. As I’ve always told you: prepare yourselves in advance—through education, through curiosity, through personal development—so that when opportunities arise, you’re ready to seize them.
Stay aware of the world around you. Act with integrity, respect others, and never be afraid to start something new. Believe in yourselves and in your ability to succeed. A positive mindset will take you further than you can imagine. Never underestimate your potential. With determination, vision, and faith, everything is possible.
Remember: love is always the greatest foundation.
With endless love and pride,
Dad
