This week was dedicated to multicultural sport week in YLE sport weekend program Finnish Broadcasting Company. I was invited as a guest representing the Finnish Multicultural Sport Federation (FIMU). I have been involved in sporting activities as a coach, player and organizer with FIMU here in Finland.
Yesterday we as FIMU organized indoor football event with theme RED CARD FOR RACISM campaign. As a foreign living in abroad, sport give a chance to meet peoples, share experiences and cultures with different citizens. Having said that, I am so blessed to have different sport activities. I lived in Finland for 15 years and through out those time I spent time with people’s, I am able to have new friends, get to know others way of life philosophy and even an opportunity of work life.
Living in abroad without hobby is just like food without spices. If you involved in any sport or other hobby activities, you can test the social life aroma and the winning or loosing flavor, perhaps you might got a true and long term friendship.
I have been playing basketball since my childhood in different level till Ethiopian national basketball team. That experience and knowledge gave me an opportunity to meet a lot of talented people’s here in Finland. By spending my time in my hobby, I am able to achieve my goals in terms of education, keep my healt, travel with my hobby friends, and experience once in a life experience happenings. As anyone knows, basketball needs a group work, I am able to achieve a team player role and a leader. That helps me also in working and family life.
Participating in any sport event is not only give you keeping your health but also give you a chance to integrate with different people.
Here is my interview with YLE 2 sport magazine, abbreviated to YLE, is Finland’s national public-broadcasting company.
